Mark Read is a documentary filmmaker; a television producer and editor; and a NYU Media Studies adjunct professor. His sometimes controversial, and always political, documentary films have appeared in numerous festivals, including Tribeca, Human Rights Watch, Rooftop Films, and the Vermont Film Festival. His work has also been broadcast nationally on WorldLink TV and Freespeech TV. His most recent work, Dance of Death, appeared in the 2006 Whitney Biennial.
When not producing or editing film/video, Mark writes and publishes literary nonfiction. His work has appeard in The Brooklyn Rail, Boog magazine, and (IM)mediacy. He occasionally reads his work (out loud) at the heralded reading seris, RantRhapsody, which he curates with the help of The Brooklyn Rail. He hopes to have a collection of essays from the reading series published as a book sometime in the near future. You can check out some of those essays, including Mark's work, by going to www.rantrhapsody.blogspot.com.
Mark is also a passionate cycling advocate and frequent rider in the monthly Critical Mass bike rides. He believes that collective, direct action is the only way to engender meaningful social change. |
